It was originally developed as a long-distance footpath in 1970, and was formally launched as a National Trail in 2007, with some changes to the route. The Cotswold Way is a 100-mile walk, which heads northwards along the Cotswold escarpment. It is not an easy walk, but the exhertion is well rewarded with some superb views.
